Verfremdungsklezmer

Gestern war ich auf dem Kulturufer in Friedrichshafen und habe mir Daniel Kahn & The Painted Bird angehört, angeschaut und auch angefühlt (denn die geniale Musik - sie nennen es "Verfremdungsklezmer" - lässt einen nicht allzu lange still sitzen).
Wer Lust auf eine genial-wilde Mischung aus Klezmer-Musik auf englisch, jiddisch und deutsch sowie politischem Kabarett hat, kann ja mal auf LastFM oder MySpace reinhören. Viel Spaß!

Rund um den Bodensee

Die Posts aus meinem anderen Blog "rund um den bodensee" sind nun auch hier zu finden. Das heisst: absofort auch eine gesunde Mischung Denglisch, sprich nicht mehr alle Artikel in Englisch - manches auch in meine Muttersprache... ganz nach Lust, Laune und Thema. :-)

Summertime... on the balcony....

The garden is growing, especially the balcony tomato. Some days ago I already had to pre-harvest two of the bigger tomatoes as the plant started crooking like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Today I luckily got a bigger stick for supporting the balcony tomato from a good friend of mine. Here's a picture of the tomato - upright again. :-)

Funny moments (1)

Yesterday - after a long time ago - I travelled by train again. Because of the following story, I decided to start a little sporadic column called "funny moments":

Usually the ticket collector ("Zugbegleiter") makes an annoncement like this: "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome on the train from x to y. We hope you enjoy the ride.... (and so on)".
Yesterday it was like this: "Ladies and Gentlemen, my name is ... and I am the main locomotive driver welcoming you on the train from Ingolstadt to Munich. Due to job cuts this train is running without any ticket collector today. We hope you enjoy the ride."

Montain view again.... or "finally I got a new laptop"... or "using linux instead of windows"

Some days ago I realised that the alps and the lake constance were almost clearly visible again after a couple of foggy and cloudy weeks. So I took a photo - and since I am now owner of a brandnew Acer laptop with a damn fast 64-bit Ubuntu 9.10 ("Karmic Koala") it was quite easy to share. Even if the old digicam used to work only with windows. In my point of view Linux has already catched up with Windows, at least for everyday usage. What about you? Do you use Linux or Windows - and why? Or are you using both?
